The name Milea (or Milia) is first mentioned in the Venetian document from 1465 and comes from the fruit tree (apple tree) or (according to other sources) from the Homeric word for goats ("mila"). In Milea there are many beautifully restored traditional houses and an impressive number of churches (about 70) in and near the village.
Milea is located about 14 km from the popular coastal villages such as Agios Nikolaos and Stoupa and about 30-40 km from the mysterious "Deep Mani" with its fantastic castles and wild coves.
